Peachtree City is recognized as one of the best planned communities in the Nation. It's a fabulous place to live and work and is truly unique in North America(and perhaps the world). The following information is a basic overview of the Peachtree City Area.
AREA HISTORY: The area that now includes Peachtree City was first settled by Woodland Era Indians several thousand years ago. In 1775, William McIntosh, Jr. was born, the son of a Scotsman and Creek Indian woman. He was to eventually become Chief of the Lower Creek Indian tribes that lived in Georgia. McIntosh mistakenly believed that the Indians and white settlers could live in peace. In 1821, he ceded Creek land to the Federal Government, part of which became Fayette County. McIntosh was considered a traitor by fellow tribesmen, who killed him in 1825, after which his two wives and several of his children stayed for several months at the Ware plantation, located in what is now Peachtree City. To honor the memory of Chief McIntosh, many towns and roads in the County were originally given Scottish names. In the 1950s, a group of real estate developers amassed over 12,000 acres in Fayette County to build a planned urban development. The City was planned to be developed into villages, each with its own shopping area, recreational facilities, and elementary schools. Aberdeen, Glenloch, Braelinn, and Kedron are the current villages. Peachtree City was chartered March 9, 1959. Today, Peachtree City is a vibrant economic center, with great retail shopping, fantasatic neighborhoods and has been nationally recognized on several occasions as the "Countrys Most Desirable Small Town"
LOCATION: Peachtree City is well positioned geographically. Hartsfield International Airport (one of the worlds busiest airports) is a short 20-25 minute drive. The suburbs on the North side of Atlanta are a 55 to 60 minute drive. Atlantas downtown and midtown areas are a 35-45 minute drive. Highway 74 connects Peachtree City to I-85 a short 8 miles away. Southside traffic is much lighter than that on Atlantas Northside, making commuting to and from downtown Atlanta far and away better than the commute from the Northside. Peachtree City is far enough from the "Big City" that you dont have many of the "Big City" problems, but can still easily get to Atlantas diverse entertainment, including concerts, sporting and cultural events.
QUALITY OF LIFE: By strictly adhering to the master plan for Peachtree City, combined with strict ordinances put in place to preserve Peachtree Citys quality of life, gives Peachtree City its own individual, attractive look. Careful planning, strict sign ordinances, underground utilities, landscape plans for both the roadsides and the medians, locating shopping at major intersections and a commitment to preserve 25% of the raw land inside the Peachtree City limits all contribute towards making this town one of the most attractive planned urban developments in the United States. Peachtree City also boasts Falcon Field, its own airport and The Wyndham Conference Center with over 33,000 square feet of flexible meeting space.
LOCAL SCHOOLS: Both the Peachtree City and Fayette County Schools are ranked among the highest in the State of Georgia. In fact, these schools rank quite favorably compared to some of the best school systems across the country. Weve also been blessed with an abundance of private schools, colleges and universities within reasonable driving distance of Peachtree City.
HEALTH CARE: There are 3 outpatient facilities close to Peachtree City, There are also over 55 general practitioners and specialists that work inside the city limits. Were very proud to have the 110 bed Fayette Community Hospital a scant 3 miles from the city limits.
HOUSING: Most of the housing in Peachtree City is fairly new. There are several new communities in the area, but most of the land that can be developed has been developed, so finding new construction after the next two years will be quite difficult. Peachtree City offers over 125 neighborhoods in a wide variety of price points. Rental Homes and apartments are also available.
PROPERTY TAXES: A quick method of roughly estimating property taxes is to multiply your purchase price by 1.3%. As an example, a home purchased for $300,000 would have an approximate annual tax bill of about $3,900.
GOLFER'S HEAVEN: Peachtree City has 3 fantastic courses, all of which were part of the master plan for the city. These courses are Planterra Ridge, Braelin and Flat Creek. No matter which course you join, youll have playing privileges at all three courses, as well as having reciprocal playing privileges at other courses in the area.
CART PATHS: One of the reasons Peachtree City is attractive to so many people is the cart paths. This is a network of over 90 miles of paved golf cart paths, which connect all areas of the city. In addition to being used as golf cart paths, theyre used as jogging trails, bicycling paths or for leisurely strolls.
